Tollcross Primary School

Tollcross Primary School (Scottish Gaelic: Bunsgoil Crois na Cìse) is a mixed non-denominational primary school on Fountainbridge near Tollcross in Edinburgh, which offered the only Gaelic medium primary education in Edinburgh and the Lothians until this medium got its own facility called Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce situated at the old Bonnington primary building. Tollcross school recently celebrated its centenary year in 2012.

In 2014 the school has just under 200 pupils in 8 classes. From August 2014 there will be 8 classes, two Primary 1 classes and straight P2-P7. Children in Tollcross catchment transfer to James Gillespies' High School.

The present school dates to 1912, and was built on the site of the old Public Slaughterhouse. It was previously known as the Lothian Road Public School and situated where the Usher Hall is today. The school buildings currently comprise eight classrooms, a dining room, a gym hall, a library, a computer room, music room and a multi-sensory room. The school has two playgrounds with climbing frames. A nursery and a community centre, Tollcross Community Centre, are on the same site. Having served as Head Teacher for more than 20 years, Kenneth Neal retired after the 2009/2010 school year. Alice Brown then became Head Teacher.
