The Jackie Boyz are an American multi-platinum singer/songwriter tandem that consists of two brothers, Carlos Battey (born August 2, 1981) and Steven Battey (born June 16, 1985). The Jackie Boyz were acquired by Universal Music Publishing as songwriters in 2009.
History
The Jackie Boyz were born and raised in Savannah, Georgia where they began their music careers at the pier on River Street performing for the local people in their hometown. Their inspiration and love for music was instilled in them by their mother Jackie, hence the name. The Jackie Boyz was created by the brothers to recognize and carry on the name of their beloved mother. Devastated by the death of their father in 2003, tragedy lurked right around the corner as their mother Jackie died the following year. The loss of their parents influenced and motivated Carlos and Steven to leave Savannah, Georgia and pursue their music careers. The brother duo arrived in LA three years ago and they have been making a name for themselves in the music industry ever since.
Current projects
They have collaborated in the studio with Madonna, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Amy Weber, Sean Kingston, Cee-Lo, Jennifer Hudson, Ciara, Diggy Simmons, Charice, Jay Sean, Jennifer Lopez, Big Time Rush, Shontelle, and Mann, among others. They co-wrote the platinum selling single "Eenie Meenie" performed by Justin Bieber and Sean Kingston and Madonna's 2009 single "Revolver".
In 2011, the duo won their first Grammy at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards for their contribution to the David Guetta One Love Club Mix of Madonna's “Revolver”. The song won for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. The Boyz were also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0. These successes follow their 2009 nomination in the Best Rap Song category for their work on Flo Rida’s “Sugar” featuring Wynter Gordon.
In four years since arriving in Los Angeles from Savannah, GA, Jackie Boyz have been responsible for or contributed to over 15 million records in sales, four number one albums and four top ten singles.
They're currently writing songs for upcoming albums by Cheryl Cole, Amy Weber, Justin Bieber, Amber Riley and Kevin McHale. The Jackie Boyz joined forces with the up-and-coming rapper Diggy on his highly anticipated debut album, Unexpected Arrival. Their song credits can be found on tracks "Special Occasion," as well as their vocals featured on "Glow in the Dark." They're collaborating on multiple projects and even branching out into new genres, including country music. The singing/songwriting duo have recently added "producing" to their multitude of talents. Their first production credits can be heard on Candice Glover's album, "Music Speaks."
Jackie Boyz as Artists
As Artists Jackie Boyz have released their second album in Japan titled “Love and Beyond”. As of September 2009, it has sold 10,000 units. The film “Whitney” drew in an epic 4.5 million viewers the night it premiered (January 17, 2015.) The film, starring Yaya DaCosta as the late Houston, was Lifetime’s most popular in a year.
