Bhuvan Mohan Roy
Raja Bhuvan Mohan Roy (4 May 1876 CE - 17 September 1934 CE) was the 48th Chakma Raja of the Chakma Circle in British India where the Chittagong Hill Tracts region exists today.
Personal life
He was the son of Raja Harish Chandra Rai Bahadur and Rani Hari Bibi.
His father died in 1885 CE leaving his three children young with a single mother. The British Court of Wards took over the estate under a manager.
He was installed as the Chakma Raja on 7 May 1897 CE.
Reforms
In 1890 CE the Rangamati Government High School was built to educate young Bhuvan Mohan and Ramani Mohan the two Chakma princes. They both achieved a First Arts (F.A.) Certificate from there.
During his reign several schools were established in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the benefit of formal education started to reach the people.
He completed the construction of a new palace at (Lower) Rangamati, along with the Gautam Muni Buddhist Temple and expanded agriculture in Rangamati and Bandukbhanga.
He attended the Delhi Durbar of 1911 CE when King George V of the United Kingdom was crowned Emperor of India where he was received with due honour.
He took initiatives to get his sons married to members of educated and enlightened families of Bengal, Cooch Behar and Tripura.
His eldest son, Rajkumar Nalinaksha Roy married Rani Benita Sen (born in Surrey, UK in 1902), daughter of Barrister Saral Sen and granddaughter of reformer Brahmanand Keshub Chandra Sen of Kolkata.
Death
Raja Bhuvan Mohan Roy died in 1934 at the age of 58.
