Pine Grove is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the borough population was 2,154.

Pine Grove Area School District, serving students from three municipalities and multiple surrounding townships, is located in the town.

History

The Pine Grove Historic District and Nutting Hall are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,154 people,877 households, and 558 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,997.0 people per square mile (770.1/km²). There were 937 housing units at an average density of 868.7 per square mile (335.0/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.75% White, 0.14% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. 0.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 877 households out of which 27.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.4% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% were non-families. 30.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the borough the population was spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $35,865, and the median income for a family was $49,737. Males had a median income of $31,369 versus $21,818 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $19,547. 5.9% of the population and 2.6% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.9% are under the age of 18 and 5.6% are 65 or older.
