Nalhati II (community development block) (Bengali: নলহাটি II সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) is an administrative division in Rampurhat subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Nalhati police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Lohapur.[1][2]

Geography

Lohapur is located at 24°18′04″N 87°56′10″E / 24.3012°N 87.9362°E / 24.3012; 87.9362.

Nalhati II community development block has an area of 107.52  km2.[2]

Gram panchayats of Nalhati II block/panchayat samiti are: Bara I, Bara II, Bhaddarpur I, Bhaddarpur II, Nowapara and Sitalgram.[3]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Nalhati II block had a total population of 106,942, out of which 54,636 were males and 52,306 were females. Nalhati II block registered a population growth of 19.03 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]

Scheduled castes at 24,261 formed around one-fourth the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 646.[5]

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Nalhati II block had a total literacy of 61.65 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 70.15 per cent female literacy was 52.70 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
