Marumsco is a census-designated place in Prince William County, Virginia. The population was 37,218 at the 2013 Census.[1] It consists of the major portion of what was Woodbridge CDP up to 2000, including the subdivisions of Marumsco Village, Marumsco Hills, Marumsco Acres and Marumsco Woods.
Way of Life
The U.S. census bureau considers Marumsco separate to Woodbridge, VA. Almost 90 percent of residents who lived in Woodbridge in 2000 now live in the new "census designated place" of Marumsco. However almost all residents of Marumsco according to a recent news article done by NBC Washington, consider themselves as living and being part of Woodbridge, they feel part of something bigger than Marumsco. Even though these residents of Marumsco consider themselves as part of Woodbridge, Marumsco alone forms an essential part of Woodbridge. With a population of about 37,000 residents and a density of about 5,000 residents per square mile, Marumsco covers a large portion of route 1 in Woodbridge. This in turn creates a high traffic of people consisting of both residents and everyday commuters going north typically to Fairfax County as well as the D.C. metropolitan area. Marumsco is measured between the streets of Occoquan road and Optiz Blvd. Marumsco is home to some of the oldest plazas and businesses of Woodbridge. Marumsco creek is also a popular preserved creek in Woodbridge. Marumsco is very culturally diverse, holding residents from all backgrounds. Although Marumsco is already a dense location it is still growing with more businesses as well as new houses, apartments and condos. With renovations on route 1 of Woodbridge, the Marumsco area of Woodbridge will once again be a major destination in Prince William County.
Marumsco Plaza — once a major shopping destination prior to explosive growth around Potomac Mills mall in the late 1980s and the 1990s. Home to a new Walgreens, Gold’s Gym, Big Lots, Todos Market, WellsFargo, BB&T Bank, T.I. Barbershop, Sherwin Williams, The Palace Night Club & Bar and many more small local businesses. Recently renovated and expanded by a new buildings which provides new space for retail and office space.
