Lučany nad Nisou (German: Wiesenthal an der Neiße) is a town in the Jizera Mountains, near Jablonec nad Nisou, in the Czech Republic. It has around 1500 inhabitants. It is composed of three parts: Lučany nad Nisou, Horní Maxov and Jindřichov. In the area of Lučany there are two historical churches and two view towers, Bramberk and Slovanka. For many years in the 1960s to 1980s the world-renowned Smetana Quartet (Jiri Novak, Lubomir Kostecky, Milan Skampa and Antonin Kohout), who had purchased houses there, retreated to Lucany with their families for three months in the summer for rest and to prepare for the new concert-giving season. Just before they left they gave a free concert for the local people in the church, always playing a new Czech quartet which they had taken into their repertoire.
