Eulonia is an unincorporated community in McIntosh County in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is part of the Brunswick, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is situated between Savannah and Brunswick just off Interstate 95.[1]
Culture
Many of Eulonia's inhabitants are members of the Gullah ethnic group of African Americans, some of whom also live on nearby Sapelo Island. The McIntosh County Shouters, a Gullah traditional music group, performs regularly at Eulonia's Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Eulonia and nearby hamlets of Crescent and Shellman Bluff are home to The Buccaneer Club (open from the 1950s until 2016), Sapelo Station, Hunter's Cafe (restaurants), site of River Oaks Condos, Pleasure Point, and Stonefield neighborhoods. Also at Shellman Bluff there are several marinas which include Fisherman's Lodge and Shellman Bluff Marina. The Shellman Bluff area is the larger attraction of McIntosh County, with many residents being "weekend warriors" and is the home of the Sapelo Saltwater Fishing Club, and the annual Sapelo Open Kingfish Tournament. The Sapelo River runs through Eulonia and has its source just inland of US Highway 17. Between Eulonia and Darien on Georgia State Route 99 lies Meridian, Georgia, site of the embarkation point for the ferry to Sapelo Island.
Local celebrations include the Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade at Shellman Bluff, Sapelo Open Kingfish Tournament (held at Shellman Bluff) and the Jack's Bluff Yacht Club Annual Fishing Tournament (amateurs only).
