Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee)[2] is part of the IIT Schools of Management, was established in 1998 to impart education in management science. The MBA programme was launched by the institute to reflect the present-day needs of dynamic business and economic scenario and to harvest the talent of best technocrats of the nation by infusing the management concepts in them to face the challenges of corporate world.

In 2016, DoMS, IIT Roorkee was ranked 9th among B-Schools by 'Career 360'.[3] In 2012, DoMS, IIT Roorkee was ranked 12th among B-Schools in India by 'Business Today'. In 2013 it was also conferred with “B-School Leadership Award” by Bloomberg-UTV in B-School Excellence Awards. DoMS, IIT Roorkee offers 2 year full-time MBA program with dual specialization.

History

In the contemporary environment of rapidly evolving global business and commerce, a new knowledge driven society is emerging and revolutionising the acumen needed for managers. Recognising this, the then University of Roorkee established the Department of Management Studies in 1998 to impart high quality formal education in management science through a comprehensive 2 year regular MBA programme. The Department of Management Studies has, over a short period, acquired and developed adequate infrastructure, expertise and resources to excel in imparting management education. The Department is housed in an exquisitely designed double storeyed building with four spacious lecture rooms, a large computer laboratory, a double storeyed library over 6400 books, syndicate and committee halls, auditorium with teaching aids and a large central atrium.

DoMS at IIT Roorkee offers a dual specialization in any two of the following categories:

  2. Finance
  3. Information Technology
  4. Operations
  5. Human Resources

Academics

DoMS, IIT Roorkee follows a course credit system similar to that used in most American universities. Each individual course within the University is assigned a certain credit weightage and students are usually required to take a specified number of units to fulfill requirements for graduation. Courses are typically conducted as classroom lectures, guest lectures, case studies, live projects, industrial visits, knowledge sharing sessions & surprise quizzes, apart from examinations.

Admissions

The admission to MBA program of IIT Roorkee is through a valid CAT Score. CAT (Common Admission Test) is conducted for admissions to IIMs and few other private B-Schools including IITs. Candidates need to apply for the same through application form generally open in the month of January. The GDPI process normally takes place in the last week of February after shortlist is made for eligible candidates and result for final shortlist to admission is made in the first week of May.

Clubs and Committees

Events at DoMS

Avenir- The annual business fest of DoMS. The theme of this event for the year 2016 was Shifting Sands - Insight Driven India. [6]

Reminiscence- The occasion of Reminiscence where three batches (first year, second year and recently passed out) of the department come together. [7]

Confluencia- It is a National level Symposium hosted by Department of management Studies (DoMS). [8]

Exuberence- DoMS, IIT Roorkee organizes intra-departmental sports fest called Exuberence between MBA seniors and juniors. [9]

Bhor- It is a very important part of the Culture of DoMS IIT Roorkee. Every year, during the deaf awareness week, the students of the DoMS, come together to celebrate the extraordinary abilities of the extremely talented children of Anushruti - a social initiative of school for Deaf inside the campus of IIT Roorkee.
