Ariadna María Gutiérrez Arévalo (born December 25, 1993) is a Colombian actress, model and beauty queen who won Miss Colombia 2014 and represented Colombia at Miss Universe 2015 where she placed 1st runner-up. Gutiérrez received international attention due to Miss Universe host Steve Harvey announcing her as the winner by mistake.
Early life
Gutiérrez was born in Sincelejo, Colombia. At 7 months old her parents moved to Barranquilla and she studied at the German School of Barranquilla.[1] Gutiérrez is a cousin[2] of Miss Colombia 2013 and Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega.
Career
Gutiérrez was awarded as Señorita Sucre (Miss Sucre Colombia 2014). She was subsequently crowned as Miss Colombia 2014. Currently she is working as a professional model.
Gutiérrez competed at the Miss Colombia 2014, representing the Sucre Department, where she won the title of Miss Colombia, gaining the department's very first win at the Miss Colombia pageant. The version of the pageant she won was its 80th edition held on November 17, 2014 in Cartagena de Indias.[3]
On November 16, 2015, Gutierrez crowned her successor, Andrea Tovar as Miss Colombia 2015.
Gutiérrez represented Colombia at the 2015 Miss Universe pageant. Initially, host Steve Harvey announced Gutiérrez as Miss Universe 2015 and Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, as the 1st runner-up.[4] However, after Gutiérrez's crowning, Harvey realized that he had misread the result and should have announced Colombia as the 1st runner-up[5] and that Wurtzbach was Miss Universe. Vega then handed the crown over to Wurtzbach before the broadcast abruptly ended.
Gutiérrez later called the experience "humiliating" and that the producers handled the mistake badly. At a Colombian radio station, she was quoted as saying it was a "great injustice. [It was] very humiliating for me."[6][7]
