Season

In 1985, Hellas Verona won Serie A title for the first time: this success was the result of an upset season. Coached by Osvaldo Bagnoli, the squad mixed emerging players and mature stars such as Hans-Peter Briegel, Preben Elkjær Larsen, Pietro Fanna, Antonio Di Gennaro and Giuseppe Galderisi. In the first league fixture, Hellas got a great win over Napoli: it won by 3-1, against a team in which Diego Maradona made his debut. Others notable wins were against Juventus (2-0 in fifth matchday, when Eljkær Larsen scored a goal after losing a boot) and Udinese (beaten 5-3 in Friuli).

During the second half of season, Hellas wasn't headed: it got the arithmetical win on May 12, with a draw against Atalanta. In final table, it preceded Torino, Inter Milan and Sampdoria: Their record counted 15 wins, 13 draw and 2 losses (42 goals for, 19 goals against).
