Zoryan Institute

The Zoryan Institute is an American non-profit organization[1][2] and think tank first established in 1982 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that focuses on genocide, diaspora, and Armenian studies. It sponsors, supports, and encourages multidisciplinary scholarly research and documentation, including conferences and publications.

History

It comprises two sub-organizations: the Zoryan Institute for Contemporary Research and Documentation, established in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1982, and the Zoryan Institute of Canada, Inc., which was incorporated as a nonprofit research institute in Toronto in 1984.[3]

The Zoryan Institute developed a course entitled "The Genocide and Human Rights University Program" in 2001. The International Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (IIGHRS) was assigned as a division of the Zoryan Institute of Canada in December 2003. The Institute entered into a partnership with the University of Minnesota through Dr. Stephen Feinstein, Director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies (CHGS), University of Minnesota. As of 2012, over 275 graduates from at least 25 different countries have completed the program in Minneapolis and Toronto.[2]

Research areas

The Zoryan Institute is involved in three main areas of research: Genocide studies, diaspora studies, and Armenian studies.
