Wunder Audio {ˈvʊndəʁ ˈɔ.di.oʊ} is an Austin, Texas-based company that manufactures high end pro audio recording equipment, such as microphones and recording consoles. Wunder Audio has been in business in Austin since 2003, and their equipment is used to record artists such as: Sir Paul McCartney, Miley Cyrus, Dr. Dre, Drake, Imagine Dragons, Justin Bieber, The Fray, The Strokes, Green Day as well as many others. Wunder Audio microphones are used to record the majority of all Hollywood orchestral scores, most notably The Hobbit at Abbey Road Studios and Iron Man 2 at the Newman Scoring Stage.
Wunder Audio Microphones
Wunder Audio’s microphones are historical recreations of the highly sought after vintage Neumann and AKG microphones from back in the 1960s. The main difference between the vintage microphones and the Wunder reproductions is the redesigned power supplies using an audiophile circuit. Other than this redesign, piece for piece the microphones are exact replicas. Mike Castoro (Founder) says "The shielding we have added removes Wi-Fi and RF signal interference while maintaining the warm vintage feel and sound of the older microphones - yielding a signal to noise ratio of about 90 dB."
The Wunderbar Recording Console
The Wunder Audio Wunderbar is an analog or digital recording console. The console comes in different sizes ranging from 12 to 60 channels (increments of 12). The main Pre-EQ module utilized in the Wunderbar is the PEQ2 which is a redesign of the Allotrope modules which were custom made for John Paul Jones (musician) of Led Zeppelin back in the 1970s. The console comes standard with three vintage stereo bus flavors, the Allotrope sound - PEQ2, a 1272 Neve and a 312 API. Western Electric all tube input module will be released in 2015. All consoles are hand assembled by Wunder Audio in Austin, TX and are built to order.
