Woolundunga Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a sheep station in South Australia.

It is situated approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) north west of Wilmington and 23 kilometres (14 mi) south west of Quorn at the foot of the Flinders Ranges.[1]

The leasehold has been in existence since 1859.[2] The station was put up for auction in 1863. At the time it occupied an area of 128 square miles (330 km2) and was stocked with approximately 15,000 sheep, 500 cattle and 24 horses.[3] In 1864 the property was owned by Charles Swinden.[4]

Walter Kingsmill acquired the property in the 1860s. He also owned Mount Brown, Mount Serle and Mount Chambers Stations.[5]

By 1922 the station were along with Saltia Station in a terrible state, nearly devoid of vegetation, after suffering from drought, overstocking and the effects of rabbits.[6]

A new two storey homestead was built on Woolundunga in 1950, the building was a replica of one that was built in about 1892.[7] Shooting of scenes for the film Kangaroo commenced in the area in late 1950 with Woolundunga temporarily being renamed as Rooloora for American audiences.[8][9]

In 2012 the entire area was ravaged by fire with a total of 600 sheep killed and over 3,000 acres (1,214 ha) burnt out by the area.[10]
