Wonderstruck is an upcoming American drama film directed by Todd Haynes. The film is based on the 2011 novel of the same name, written by Brian Selznick. It stars Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Amy Hargreaves, Millicent Simmonds, Oakes Fegley, and James Urbaniak.

Plot

Set in 1927 and 1977, Rose (Millicent Simmonds) escapes her home in New Jersey to catch a glimpse of her idol Lillian Mayhew while Ben (Oakes Fegley), who lives with his family in Minnesota, runs to New York after his mother dies after he finds a mysterious note.

Production

In May 2015, it was revealed that Todd Haynes would direct the film adaptation Wonderstruck, based upon the novel of the same name by Brian Selznick, who also wrote the screenplay. Christine Vachon would produce under her Killer Films banner.[1][2] In November 2015, Julianne Moore had been cast in the film, with Pamela Koffler and John Sloss joining as producers.[3] In April 2016, Jaden Michael, Cory Michael Smith, Michelle Williams, Oakes Fegley, and Amy Hargreaves joined the cast of the film.[4][5][6][7] That same month, deaf actress Millicent Simmonds was cast in the film, with her section of the film being presented as a silent film.[8] In May 2016, James Urbaniak joined the cast.[9] Edward Lachman is serving as the film's cinematographer.[10][11] Carter Burwell composed the films score.[12]

Filming

In April 2016, a casting call was sent out for men and women to film a scene as businessmen.[13] Principal photography began on May 4, 2016.[14][15][16] Filming took place in Peekskill, New York.[17] In June 2016, Julianne Moore and Oakes Fegley were spotted filming.[18] That same month, a casting call was set out for children.[19] Production concluded on July 3, 2016.[20]

Release

In December 2015, Amazon Studios announced they would produce and distribute the film.[21] FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales on the film.[22]
