Whodunnit? was a British television game show that originally aired on ITV as a pilot on 15 August 1972 hosted by Shaw Taylor and then as a full series from 25 June 1973 to 26 June 1978 first hosted by Edward Woodward in 1973 and then hosted by Jon Pertwee from 1974 to 1978.
Format
Each week it featured a short murder-mystery drama enacted in front of a panel of celebrity guests who then had to establish who the murderer was. Anouska Hempel and Patrick Mower became permanent panelists from series 3 onwards, with two guest celebrities each episode. The panel members could interview the remaining characters, with only clue being that only the murderer could lie. Each panelist could also request to see a short replay of one section of the initial drama, which would often include events as they occurred and flashbacks as seen and narrated by individual suspects. At the end the compere would reveal the murderer with the catchphrase "would the real whodunnit please stand up?"
Sets
Whodunnit? originally adopted a conventional panel-game studio layout, but from series 3 onwards utilised the murder scene itself as the set.
DVD releases
The first five series of Whodunnit? have been released on DVD by Network Distributing.
