They stretch from the Bóbr river in the east to the Elbe and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in the west.
The Western Sudetes comprise a number of mountain ranges, including:
- Krkonoše (Giant Mountains)
- Rudawy Janowickie
- Kaczawskie Mountains
- Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge
- Jizera Mountains
- Lusatian Mountains with Zittau Hills
- Lausitzer Bergland
The large basin of the Jelenia Góra valley is situated at the northern foot of the Karkonosze, between the Rudawy Janowickie and the Jizera Mountains.
