Water Grill comprises three restaurants in California in the United States. The restaurants serve seafood. The original location is in Los Angeles. Two additional locations are in Santa Monica and San Diego. It is owned by King's Seafood Company.

History

The original location is in Los Angeles. It is in the PacMutual Building. The architecture is Art Deco, including carved ceilings, brass doors, marble walls, and leather seats.[2][3] Water Grill served "concept" seafood dishes.[3] In 2011, the restaurant closed for one month. While closed, it underwent a $1.5 million renovation. Water Grill has been described as an "institution," in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Times. Former chefs at the Los Angeles location include David LeFevre and Michael Cimarusti.[2] In 2013, the Los Angeles location was named one of "38 Essential Los Angeles Restaurants," by Eater.[4]

Santa Monica

Water Grill is owned by King's Seafood Company. In 2013, they opened a second location in Santa Monica. The Santa Monica location had $10 million in revenue opening year.[1]

San Diego

The San Diego location opened in 2014. It is located in the East Village neighborhood. The San Diego restaurant is in a building formally occupied by The Palm. It cost $5 million to renovate the building to house Water Grill. It seats 275 people and features a 300-gallon fish tank as the restaurant centerpiece.[1]

Food

Water Grill serves seafood. The restaurants have raw bars serving fresh seafood.[1] The restaurants serve ten types of oysters[3] and also serve sea urchin and bay scallops.[5] Specific dishes include fritto misto, shrimp and grits, ragout, and squid ink pasta with calamari.[3] Water Grill's crab cakes were named the best in Los Angeles in 2011 by Los Angeles Magazine.[5]
