WZJZ is a commercial radio station located in Port Charlotte, Florida, broadcasting to the Fort Myers, Florida area on 100.1 FM. WZJZ airs a Hot AC music format branded as "Y100.1". The station can be clearly heard as far north as Wauchula and as far west as Bradenton.[1]
History
In the late 1970s, 100.1 in Port Charlotte had the call letters WEEJ and played an all disco format[2] and throughout most of the 1980s an adult contemporary format until switching formats various times throughout the 1990s.
On March 21, 2007 WZJZ, when it was a Smooth Jazz station, moved from 107.1 FM to 100.1 FM, swapping frequencies with country-formatted WCKT.
Z100
On 3/29/2009 at midnight WZJZ began to play the same portion of the song "I Like To Move It" by Reel 2 Real repeatedly in preparation for a format change. The new station was slated to be called Move 100.1. On March 30, 2009 WZJZ flipped to a very upbeat-type Rhythmic Adult Contemporary direction and adopted the "Z100" moniker (its logo patterned after its Top 40 sister station in Portland, Oregon and partially in another sister station in New York, New York).
Y100
On July 25, 2011, after a weekend of stunting, WZJZ flipped to Top 40 (CHR), billing themselves as Y100.[3] The station's format and logo is patterned after its sister station in nearby Miami, WHYI, but is customized for Southwest Floridians. The flip to Top 40 now gives iHeartMedia, Inc.'s Fort Myers cluster two Top 40s, as they also own Rhythmic Top 40 WBTT. In 2013, Y100 once again switched their logo to match their sister station, but the difference of their logo is they have splatters, but in Y100, it is clear, pure blue logo and removed the orange part of the "100" part of their logo.
On March 24, 2016 at midnight, they slightly tweaked their format to Hot AC and billing themselves as "Y100.1".
