Vivek Ramaswamy (born August 9, 1985 in Cincinnati, OH[1]) is an entrepreneur in the biotechnology sector. He is the founder and CEO of Roivant Sciences, a global biopharmaceutical company. He is also the founder and CEO of Axovant Sciences, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to comprehensively addressing the cognitive, behavioral and functional components of dementia. The initial public offering for Axovant in 2015 raised $360 million, making it the largest biotech IPO in U.S. history.[2]

Ramaswamy serves on the Board of Directors of Myovant Sciences, a subsidiary of Roivant Sciences focused on the innovative treatment of women’s health diseases and other endocrine-related disorders. Myovant, formed in April 2016, raised $218 million in its initial public offering, the largest biotech IPO of 2016.[3]

Ramaswamy also serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Arbutus Biopharma Corporation, a company focused on developing a cure for patients with chronic Hepatitis B infection through the use of combination therapies.[4]

Early career

Prior to founding Roivant, Ramaswamy was an investor in the biotechnology sector. In 2007, he co-founded and served as President of Campus Venture Network, a technology company that was acquired in 2009 by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. Ramaswamy worked at QVT Financial from 2007 to 2014, where he was a partner and co-managed the firm’s biotech portfolio.[5]

Education and personal life

Ramaswamy attended Harvard College where he graduated summa cum laude with an A.B in biology. He also holds a J.D. from Yale Law School. He graduated valedictorian from his high school in Cincinnati where he was a nationally ranked junior tennis player.[6]

Ramaswamy is the eldest son in his family. His father worked at General Electric and his mother, Geetha Ramaswamy, is a geriatric psychiatrist.[7] He currently resides in Manhattan with his wife.
