Victor Crowley is a fictional character and the main antagonist of the Hatchet films. In Hatchet it's said that long ago, presumably the 1940s-1960s, Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) was a deformed boy who was kept hidden from the world by his father. One Halloween, a group of kids decided to scare Victor by throwing fireworks into his house, but the house was engulfed in flames. Victor's father tried to hack down the door with a hatchet to save Victor, but because Victor was pressed up against the other side of the door trying to get out, he hit him in the face with the hatchet, killing him. Victor's father died of a broken heart ten years later. As the legend goes, Crowley roams the surrounding swamps, and kills anyone who enters.
Appearances
Hatchet
In the first movie, the majority of Crowley's victims are of stranded tourists on a tour guide in the swamps. Two hunters, Ainsley (Joshua Leonard) and Sampson (Robert Englund) are fishing in the swamp. Ainsley says he has to use the restroom, and Sampson rows their boat to shore. While Ainsley is urinating, Sampson falls silent; Ainsley goes to see where he is and finds Sampson's mutilated body. He grabs his harpoon, only to be murdered by Crowley, who rips his insides out. Husband and wife, Jim Permatteo (Richard Riehle) and Shannon Permatteo (Patrika Darbo) are the next to be murdered. As Shannon and an injured Jim venture up to Crowley's house to find help, Crowley attacks the pair and hacks Jim's shoulder with his hatchet many times. As Shannon attempts to run, Crowley grabs her and begins to pull her jaw apart. Eventually, Shannon's whole face is ripped in half. Doug Shapiro (Joel Murray) is next to go when Crowley twists his whole head around. Crowley proceeds to attack Jenna (Joleigh Fioreavanti) with a sand grinder, wearing away her whole jaw. The other survivors flee, but Shawn (Parry Shen) stays to fend off Victor with a shovel only to have his leg and head severed with it. Crowley then grabs the still alive Jenna and impales her on the handle. Misty (Mercedes McNab) is attacked offscreen, however her severed head and torso are discovered before the remaining survivors manage to set Crowley on fire, but rain soon extinguishes the fire. As they remaining group begins running away, Victor grabs a hold of Marcus (Deon Richmond) and murdered him by having his rib cage broken. Crowley stabs Ben (Joel David Moore) in the foot with a gate pole, but Marybeth (Tamara Feldman) bends it towards a running Crowley, who impales himself on it, apparently killing him. As the remaining duo board a boat, Marybeth falls in the water. She surfaces only to see Crowley holding a severed arm from a dying Ben. Crowley grabs Marybeth as she screams, before the movie finishes.
Hatchet II
The second movie picks up from where the first ends. Marybeth (Now played by Danielle Harris) manages to get away from Victor by gouging one of his eyes out. Victor soon attacks Jack Cracker (John Carl Buechler) for helping Marybeth escape. After ripping out Jack's intestine, Victor decapitates him with his intestine. Rev. Zombie (Tony Todd) later tells the full story of Victor Crowley to Marybeth.
Shyann Crowley (Kathryn Fiore) is slowly dying of stomach cancer. Her husband, Thomas Crowley (Also played by Ken Hodder) is having an affair with Shyann's nurse Lena (Erika Hamilton) secretly behind Shyann's back. After a year of secrecy, Shyann finally passes away, allowing Thomas and Lena to proclaim their love. However Shyann casts a curse on the pair and Lena's unborn baby, before once again dying. Months later, Lena gives birth to the deformed Victor before she dies. Thomas brings up Victor, but hides him to cover up the betrayal of his wife. Years later, one Halloween a group of kids set fire to the house, trapping Victor in and causing him to be accidentally killed by his father with a hatchet. Victor has come back as a ghost, trapped in the night he died - seeking revenge.
Victor is shown to kill numerous men in the swamp. First he violently attacks one man, before slicing another's head in half. He pulls off a man's jaw, before cutting off the face of another. Lastly, he stabs a man in the neck with a harpoon.
Marybeth convinces Rev. Zombie to take her back into the swamp to get revenge on Victor. Along with the pair, a group of hunters enter the swamp, which provide victims for Victor. First he attacks Chad (David Foy), smashing his face in with his hatchet. After Cleatus (Ed Ackerman) turns on the propellor of his boat to escape, Victor drags him into the water and pushes his head into the turning propeller, shredding his face. While Layton (AJ Bowen) and Avery (Alexis Peters) have sex, Victor decapitates Layton, before killing Avery, butchering her with his hatchet. John (Rick McCallum) and Vernon (Colton Dunn) are next to be murdered by Victor, after he cuts them both in half with a chainsaw. Justin (Perry Shan) is killed by Victor by having a hatchet thrown into his back and having the back of his head ground off by a sand grinder. Victor then attacks the remaining survivours, and despite receiving many injuries, manages to kill Trent (R.A. Mihailoff) by curb stomping his head in half. Victor proceeds to gruesomely kill Bob (Tom Holland). Victor has now successfully murdered the three boys who set fire to his house, resulting in his death (Bob, Trent and Sampson), thus meaning the curse has been lifted. However, it turns out that getting revenge on the 3 men that caused his death is 1 of the things to get rid of Crowley forever, another reason, to find his father (Bob WAS one of the 3 teens that Halloween night, it was thought to be Sampson's brother, but it wasn't and it is unknown why she told Zombie that Bob wasn't her real uncle and her real uncle died of lukemia when she was 12). Realizing that this means Victor is still alive, Zombie turns to see Victor bursting through the door of the cabin shortly before he is murdered. Marybeth then attacks Victor and manages to smash in his head and finally shoot it off as the movie ends.
Hatchet 3
The film picks up immediately after the end of the last film, with Marybeth Dunston (Danielle Harris) blowing off the head of Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) with a shotgun. She walks away and comes across the bodies of Vernon and John, where she hears a somehow still alive Crowley in the woods. Marybeth starts up the chainsaw, but is grabbed by Victor, whose head is bloody but reattached. Marybeth kicks him; when this does not work, she instead puts her arm in his bloody face and he falls backwards onto the chainsaw, cutting him down the middle. She grabs a shotgun from one of the men and shoots Victor's head, and walks back into the city. She walks into the Jefferson Parish Police Department, immediately having guns drawn on her. Upon discovery of the twenty to thirty bodies at Honey Island Swamp, she is placed as the prime suspect in the murders by Sheriff Fowler (Zach Galligan), even after telling him numerous times about the events of the last two films. The Sheriff heads out to the swamp with the paramedics and fire department, leaving Deputy Winslow (Robert Diago DoQui) in charge of the station until he gets back.
Amanda Fowler (Caroline Williams), the Sheriff's ex-wife, journalist and Victor Crowley expert, comes into the station to interview Marybeth about what happened, telling Marybeth she wants to help, otherwise Marybeth will be tried and executed for what happened at Honey Island Swamp. After retelling the events of the previous two films to Amanda, Amanda tells her that Victor Crowley is a repeater, set to relive the night he died, looking for his father and that he will keep coming back until he gets what he wants: his father. She tells Marybeth that her father, Sampson Dunston, was the one that came up with the idea to start the fire many years ago and tried to get him to deliver Thomas Crowley's ashes to Victor over the past several years, only to be dismissed numerous times. Since he's dead and she's Sampson's bloodline, only she can put an end to Victor Crowley. Marybeth doesn't believe her, declaring that she killed Victor Crowley the night before.
At Honey Island Swamp, the body of Victor Crowley is bagged and tagged and put into the ambulance boat. When the paramedic, Randy (Sean Whalen) is distracted, Victor reanimates and blows Randy's head off with a defibrillator. Victor then escapes back to his house. Deputy Hamilton (Jason Trost) goes to investigate and goes to the boat where Victor appears and kills him by hacking his head in half. Victor then kills 10 other fire department officials and paramedics, leaving Andrew (Parry Shen), Rick and another missing paramedic alive. In comes the SWAT team, led by Tyler Hawes (Derek Mears) and consists of six other armed men and one armed woman named Dougherty (Rileah Vanderbilt). Hawes takes over the operation from Fowler and leads them to the Crowley house, where Deputy Elbert (Diane Ayala Goldner) and another Deputy are picked off by Crowley. Crowley ambushes the SWAT team and they futilely shoot Crowley as he kills them all. Hawes tries tackling Crowley but is in turn pinned against the shed and has his spine torn out. While Rick catches Victor's attention, Deputy Schneiderman (Cody Blue Snider) takes the opportunity to fire a rocket launcher at Crowley, but misses and hits Rick instead, killing him. The resulting explosion destroys Crowley house, covering Victor in the rubble. When Schneiderman begins to celebrate, Victor appears from the wreckage and throws a piece of rubble into Schneiderman's back. He then proceeds to kills Schneiderman by ripping his arms off and drowning him in a puddle. Dougherty, Andrew and the Sheriff run for it. Before running, the Sheriff manages to slow Crowley down by shooting in the chest with a handgun.
Back at the station, upon hearing the SWAT team getting killed on the radio, Amanda convinces Deputy Winslow to let Marybeth out of jail and help her save everyone at Honey Island Swamp. She has Winslow take her and Marybeth to the house of Abbott McMullen (Sid Haig), Victor Crowley's racist long distant cousin and only living blood relative who possesses the ashes of Thomas Crowley. When he declines to give up the ashes, Amanda holds him at gunpoint and leaves with the ashes. Back at Honey Island Swamp, the other paramedic is chased by Victor Crowley when he hides behind a canoe which is revealed to be the one from the first movie because Ben (Joel David Moore), who is still alive, was lying in the canoe, while clinging to life with his left arm ripped off. As he begs for help, Victor throws the hatchet at Ben, hitting him in the face, killing him. Before Victor can kill the paramedic, an alligator comes out of the swamp and pulls the paramedic into the swamp to his death.
Victor resumes chasing the Sheriff, Andrew and Dougherty and corners them in the water ambulance. They barricade themselves in and the Sheriff calls for the National Guard on the ambulance's radio, telling them they're being attacked by crazed gunmen. The National Guard tell them that they'll be there in ten minutes. Just as they settle down and think everything's all right, Victor begins to cut his way through the boat wall with the gas powered belt sander. The Sheriff tells them not to move, as if they try to leave, they'll get killed, while Andrew thinks they should leave while Victor's busy cutting through the wall. Amanda, Deputy Winslow and Marybeth arrive at the Swamp outside the burned down Crowley house. Amanda calls out for Victor, telling him they have his father. Upon hearing his wife's voice, Sheriff Fowler attempts to leave, only to be grabbed by Victor and beheaded with the belt sander. Andrew and Dougherty are trapped in the boat with Victor on the other side of the broken door. Dougherty attempts to slowly retrieve the Sheriff's gun, but Victor grabs and pulls her through the hole on the door, disembowelling her. Andrew remains inside the boat, keeping himself out of Victor's sight.
Victor returns to his home, finding Marybeth, Amanda and Deputy Winslow there. Marybeth offers Victor his father's ashes and apologizes for what her father did to him. Victor proclaims "Daddy" (his only word) upon seeing the ashes. When he tries to take the ashes, Deputy Winslow mistakes it for Victor going to attack Marybeth, and so shoots Victor down. But Victor rises back up and rips apart Winslow's chest once his back is turned. In response, Amanda attempts to take the urn from Marybeth, but is beheaded. Victor then knocks Marybeth over and impales her on a tree branch. Just when Victor picks up a machete to finish Marybeth off, Marybeth smashes the urn over Victor's head, spreading his father's ashes all over him, and causing him to melt. With the last bit of her strength, she grabs one of the SWAT team's guns and blows Crowley away, finally killing him once and for all. The National Guard then arrives and Andrew, now free of danger, emerges from the boat and signals the helicopters. Just as the screen cuts to black, one final shot of Marybeth gasping for air is shown, leaving the audience to wonder if she will live or die from her injuries.
