Vani Viswanath (born 13 May 1971) is an Indian film actress. She has acted in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu movies.[1] Vani won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress for her performance in Susanna directed by T. V. Chandran.[2] She was termed as Mollywood's "Action Queen".[3]

Early life

Vani is born as second child among five children to Chennai settled Malayali parents Thazhathuveettil Vishwanadhan, an astrologer and Girija, a housewife in Ollur, Thrissur in 1971.[4] Her mother hails from Kannur District and her father hails from Thrissur District.[5] She has four siblings. She studied at Thrissur till fourth grade, later family shifted to Madras and continued her education there till tenth grade. She got her first role while she was studying in tenth grade and hence she discontinued her studies and concentrated on movie career.[6]

Career

She has appeared predominantly in Malayalam and Telugu movies. She also appeared Kannada & Tamil Movies. She was among the big stars of her time in the South. Her Tollywood movie Gharana Mogudu with Tollywood superstar, Chiranjeevi was a huge hit. Vani also acted in two Hindi movies with Superstar Mithun Chakraborty in Jung and Bhishma.

Personal life

While acting in Malayalam films, Vani fell in love with co-star Baburaj, who was one of the most prominent actors in Malayalam films doing negative roles and who later became a comedian through the 2011 Malayalam movie Salt N' Pepper. The couple married in 2002 and has two children, Archa (born in 2004) & Adrith (born in 2008).[7] They reside in Nungambakkam, Chennai.[8]
