Usutuaije Maamberua

Usutuaije Maamberua (born 5 August 1957 in Tsumeb) is a Namibian politician and accountant. Maamberua is the head of the South West Africa National Union (SWANU) and was elected to the National Assembly of Namibia in the 2009 general election. As SWANU's candidate for president, Maamberua received 2,968 votes, which placed him eighth out of twelve candidates.

Education

Maamberua earned three Master of Arts degrees (from University of Namibia, Heriot-Watt University and University of Southampton) and one Ph.D. (University of the Witwatersrand) in Business and economics related fields.[1]

Politics

An accountant by training, Maamberua worked as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance from 1997 to 2003. In that year, Maamberua was demoted to the Ministry of Prisons and Correctional Services. Shortly after receiving the demotion, Maamberua resigned to pursue other career opportunities.[2] He became head of the accounting department at the University of Namibia in 2007.
