The University of Jinan (Chinese: 济南大学; pinyin: Jǐnán Dàxué) is a university in Jinan, Shandong province, China.University of Jinan is a comprehensive university under the administration of Shandong Province and Jinan City, with the former as the main administrator. The university is authorized to confer Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees.
History
The university was instituted in 1948. It has provided around 100,000 graduates for the country, with former Vice Chairman of Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, president of Chinese Academy of Engineering and academician of both "Chinese Academy of Sciences" and Chinese Academy of Engineering Song Jian as one of them. In recent years, the university has undertaken more than 300 "863" and "973" research programs and programs financed by the National Sciences Foundation, Social Sciences Foundation and State Key Scientific and Technological Plans. 34 teaching research results and over 100 scientific research results received state or provincial awards.
Location
The university has two campuses, occupying an area of around 2500 mu(170 ha.), with constructions occupying an area of over 880,000 square meters. The library occupyies an area of 40,000 square meters and is equipped with a digital system, an information searching system and a collection of 1,700,000 books, 3200 kinds of journals in Chinese and foreign languages. The campus computer network is connected with the China Education and Research Network and Internet.
Administration
The university consists of 20 schools and two teaching centers, and offers four first-level and 41 second-level specialties for master candidates. The university confers engineering master's degrees.
The university offers 61 programs for bachelor candidates, covering literature, sciences, engineering, law, management science, economics, pedagogy and history. The university has established five key disciplines and key labs of provincial and state level, five centers and bases for engineering and technological research and also social science research bases of provincial level and 32 university research institutes and centers in addition. The number of the students on campus is 32,000, with 11,000 part-time students.
The university has 2,300 members of faculty and staff, among whom 160 are full professors, 600 associate professors, 160 doctors and 600 masters, 24 provincial and municipal top talents, 7 young specialists with "outstanding contribution made to Shandong Province". 18 of the faculty enjoy special subsidy from the state government, 16 of them are titled "Excellent Teachers" by the state or provincial governments and 14 of them received Zeng Xianzi Education Found Award.
International cooperation
The university has exchanges and cooperations with educational institutions abroad, including colleges and universities in US, UK, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Russia, Japan and South Korea. It has employed over 100 international scholars as part-time professors or visiting professors.
