The Type 096 (Tang class, Chinese designation: 09-VI) submarine is a SSBN to be in development for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Submarine Force. The Type 096 may carry 24 SLBMs, compared to the 12 of the previous Type 094 SSBN.[1] According to analysts, it could also feature a hull similar to Western SSBNs.[2] U.S. defense officials have stated that it might begin its first sea patrol in 2014.[2]
