Robbery
On December 6, 2015, three suspects with sledgehammers walked into the Ben Bridge Jeweler near Hollister Co. and the anchor store J. C. Penney. The suspects smashed jewelry displays' glasses and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. This event happened just days after the 2015 San Bernardino attack. Shoppers, who were already on edge, mistook the sound of smashing glass for gunshots. Only shoppers around the store knew it was robbers. Shoppers who did not know what was happening on ran for their lives fearing that it was another active shooting attack. Shoppers ran into stores and closets to save their lives. First calls came it at around 6:30 p.m. PST. Police and Swat officers from Riverside and neighboring cities San Bernardino and Eastvale responded. Over 100 officers responded due to the first calls being shoppers who thought it was an active shooting. One hour later, shoppers were allowed to exit the mall after the confirmation that it was just a robbery. Suspects have not been found as of December 2015, but one of the suspects' vehicle was found not far from the mall.
