Todd Meagher (born 21 July 1961) is an American entrepreneur and songwriter.

Early life

Meagher was born in Meriden, Connecticut and is the creator and originator of what has become known as the "360 deal" in the music business.

Career

Throughout the 1980s Meagher's company Todd Meagher Music had a co-publishing songwriter deal with Warner/Chappell Music co-writing songs with artists including Night Ranger, Gorky Park, Eddie Money, Alice Cooper, White Lion, Warrant, Julian Lennon and Vince Neil (Motley Crue).^[1]

Meagher also founded TODD Entertainment a company that created and had a 50% interest in artist-owned companies. Each artist company held exclusive rights to all of the artists intellectual and musical property rights including trademarks, copyrights, publishing rights and performance rights. In 2004, Meagher sued the artist Buckcherry, Motley Cure's manager Allen Kovac, his own publishing partner Warner/Chappell and the Agency Group now United Talent Agency for $20 million for breach of contract and encouraging Meagher to assist in booking performances which resulted in the termination of one of TODD Entertainment's artist companies for violation of the California Talent Agencies Act. As of July 2016, most of the defendants had settled with TODD Entertainment and Meagher paying Meagher undisclosed amounts and awarding Meagher intellectual and musical property rights. However, the case against United Talent Agency is still pending, being closely watched by the entertainment industry for the impact it might have on the California Talent Agency Act, and is scheduled for trial on November 7, 2016.^[2]

In, 2009, Meagher launched theRevolution a full-service, artist-focused, music services company with Julian Lennon and Michael Birch.^[3] theRevolution's first release was a 4-track EP which featured the single "Lucy" a song that paid tribute to Lennon's childhood friend Lucy Vodden, who also inspired the Beatles classic "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds." and who had lost her battle with Lupus. Proceeds from the sale of Lucy were donated to several Lupus charities. ^[4]

In 2010, Meagher again partnered with Michael Birch and Julian Lennon relaunching MyStore an e-commerce website originally developed in 2005 to provide artists with a free web store to sell their music and merchandise via a MyStore button on their MySpace page.^[5] In 2016, MyStore pivoted to a shoppable video platform and marketplace representing itself as QVC meets Etsy.
