Cadence All-Female A Cappella (also known as Cadence) is an all female a cappella group at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The group was founded in 2003 by Mellissa Lachi Offoha.[1]

History

The group was originally a coed group entitled Funkapella (fashioned after the internationally touring a cappella group Rockapella). It existed in this arrangement for two semesters then soon evolved into a female a cappella group consisting of Funkapella's female members, changing its name to the UNC Cadence at that time. The first Funkapella concert was in the Hanes Art Center in 2003.

In 2013 Cadence performed its 10-year anniversary concert at Hanes Art Center. The group released its first EP, Brand New Behavior, in 2011 and was featured in a Mouth Off "EP-sode!" on January 22, 2012.[2] The group's first full-length album, Double Take, was released in April 2013 and produced by The Vocal Company.

Signature song

The signature song for Cadence is Like a Prayer, by Madonna. This song is performed at each concert, and Cadence alumni are encouraged to come to the stage and perform the song along with current members. The a cappella arrangement of the song was arranged by Mellissa Lachi Offoha in 2003 [3]
