The Black Skirts (검정치마) is a Korean indie rock one-man band consisting of vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, bassist and keyboardist Bryan Cho (Hangul: 조휴일) (also known as Holiday Cho or Jo Hyu-il).[2] He is currently signed under HIGHGRND,[3][4] an independent label headed by Korean-Canadian musician Tablo.
History
Bryan Cho was born in Seoul but grew up in New Jersey, having moved to the US at the age of 12. In 2004, he formed a punk rock band called Castel Prayon with two other members, which eventually became a one-man band. Later, Cho decided to return to Korea to pursue his music career, and changed the name of the band to The Black Skirts (검정치마).[5]
In 2008, Cho released his first album, 201. It contained ten tracks, including the title track, “Like Me” (좋아해줘). The album received much popularity within the Korean indie scene, and won the 7th Korean Pop Music Award for Best Modern Rock Album in early 2010.[6]
In 2009, Cho released an unofficial album titled My feet don't touch the ground (and i am so winded i can't sing for you today). A special edition of 201[7] was released on March 18, 2010.
On July 13, 2011, Cho released his second full-length album, Don't You Worry Baby (I'm Only Swimming).
On January 7, 2016, The Black Skirts signed under HIGHGRND. On January 28 a music video for the new single "Everything" was released[8] and the song became available for purchase the day after.[9]
