Syaharani (born Saira Syaharani Ibrahim; July 27, 1971) is an Indonesian jazz singer and actress. She had represent to Indonesia in 2001 North Sea Jazz Festival in Netherlands. She had ever guest star in several jazz concerts, such as Al Jarreau, Keith Martin, Dave Koz and other.
Life and career
Early life and career beginnings
Saira Syaharani Ibrahim was born on July 27, 1971, in Batu, East Java, to Hasan Ali Ibrahim and Elly Zapantis. In 1990, She began perform in several campus and met Bubi Chen, an Indonesian jazz singer. In late 1988, she joining with Benny Likumahuwa, Cendi Luntungan, Oele Pattiselanno, Bubi Chen, etc. releasing jazz album What a Wonderful World.
1998-2002: Love and Magma
Her debut jazz studio album Love was released by Sangaji Records. “For Once In My Life” had released as debut single for introducing in jazz music. She had released compilation album May and Friend in Singapore. In 2000, she appointed as guest vocalist in Al Jarreau’ concert in Jakarta. She had working a collaboration project with Fariz RM for R&B single “Renungan” and played main actress in a theater, entitled Madame Dasima by Eki Production on 2001.
She was return releasing second studio album Magma on 2002. Produced by herself, it had not only serve for Jazz genre, but also pop tri hop, fusion, ethnic, and other.
2004-2007: Syaharani
After two years later, Syaharani returning released her self-titled third album and became her last album as jazz solo singer. All of songs in album were re-arranged, such as Sting’ “Fragile”, Stevie Wonder’ “Lately”, and both of Ermy Kulit’ song: “Kesan” and “Karya Andy Mapajalous”. Still same of year, she embarked a concert, titled Cross Genre Music at the Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki on June 30 and invited to Kevin Wahl (trumpet and saxophone), Oele Pattiselanno (guitar), Agam Hamzah (guitar), Adi Dharmawan (bass), Eddy Syahronny (drum), etc.
In addition as jazz singer, Syahrani had played debut film Garasi in 2006 and role as Kinar, a woman who is serious in defending their rights.[1]
Syaharani began working project with Didit Fareed and Krakatau’ former guitarist Donny Suhendra for collaboration, Syaharani and Queenfireworks and released studio album Buat Kamu.
2014: Ternyata Oh Ternyata and Dance With Me
In 2014, Syaharani had released collaboration album Ternyata Oh Ternyata with Roedyanto Warsito by Royal Prima Musikindo on October 30 and produced other single “Andaikan” and “Ternyata Oh Ternyata”. Soon after that, she returning released the studio album Dance With Me which earning nominations for Best R&B/Soul Album at the 18th Annual Anugerah Musik Indonesia.
