Swing route

A swing route or a flare route is an American football route.[1] It is run by the running back, and is like a wheel route thrown before the turn up the sideline, i. e. release toward the sideline, and then bend or arc upfield ever so slightly,[2] and look for a short pass.[3] It can be combined with a screen pass. It is distinguished from a flat route by approaching the line of scrimmage more gradually, on a curved path.[4]
