St. Mary's Catholic Church Buttranwali, Gujranwala
St. Mary's Catholic Church is a church in Buttranwali, in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lahore, Pakistan. Its building began under the leadership of Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf Mani on April 4, 1988 and was completed in December 1988.
The first prayer in the church was conducted on December 25, 1988 at Christmas. The Archbishop of Lahore Diocese, Armando Trindade, led the blessing and inauguration ceremony on Nov. 6, 1992. Babu Micheal Mashooq was the Catechist at the time.
Affiliation
St. Mary's is a part of St. Joseph's Parish, Gujranwala, which is one of the 26 parishes of Archdiocese of Lahore. St. Joseph's Parish is situated approximately 80 km in the west of Lahore, the Provincial Capital of Punjab. This is one of the old mission stations of Archdiocese of Lahore founded in 1953 by the Capuchin missionaries from Belgium. The Parish consists of 350 rural and 30 urban localities scattered in different areas. There are about 4500 Catholic families residing in the parish.
Buttranwali
Buttranwali is a thickly populated village in Gujranwala. It is about 7 km from St. Joseph's Church. Most of the Christians are unemployed and those who are employed are working on daily wages i.e. brick line workers and peasants.
Sunday school
There is a Sunday school providing catechism to children. The children learn prayers, hymns, Biblical verses and tableaus in the Sunday school.
The current pastor is Fr. Philip John.
