SONAMOO (Hangul: 소나무; stylized as sonAmoo, literally Pine Tree[1]) is a seven-member South Korean girl group under TS Entertainment. Their fans are called Solbangul (Hangul: 솔방울) which means pine cone. On December 29, 2014, Sonamoo made their official debut with the single Deja Vu.[1] The group consists of Sumin, Minjae, D.ana, Nahyun, Euijin, High.D and NewSun.[2]
Career
2014–2015: Debut with Deja Vu & comeback with Cushion
On December 29, 2014, SONAMOO officially debuted with the release of their debut single Deja Vu and held their debut showcase performance.[3] The album debuted at the number one spot on Gaon's weekly Album Chart.[4] On February 25, 2015, they began promoting another song from the album, Just Go (가는거야).[5]
SONAMOO's first overseas performance was in Japan on March 15, 2015 performing at Shibuya and also walked the runway for Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio.[6]
They had their second overseas activity in Singapore on May 22, 2015 for Kpop Night Out Music Matters in Clarke Quay.[7]
On July 20, 2015, SONAMOO made their comeback with Cushion through their showcase and the release of the music video through TS Entertainment official YouTube channel. The title song was co-produced by EastWest and ₩uNo, who is known for being the former member of SPEED, Taewoon.[8] SONAMOO members, D.ana and NewSun also took part in writing rap for two songs; Deep (깊어) and Let's Make A Movie (상영시간 무한대). On September 1, 2015, they began promoting Round N Round (빙그르르), another song from the album.[9]
2016-present: Comeback with I Like U Too Much
On June 10, 2016 TS Entertainment announced the group would have a comeback with their third mini-album I Like U Too Much.[10]
Members
- Sumin (수민) – Leader, sub-vocal[2]
- Her real name is Ji Su-min (지수민) and she was the first member to be trained as a trainee.[11] She is the oldest, born on March 3, 1994. She is the leader and also one of the sub-vocalists.
- Minjae (민재) – Lead vocal[2]
- Real name is Seong Min-jae (성민재). She and Nahyun are the last members to join as trainees.[11] Born on December 18, 1994, she is the second oldest. On various occasions, she replaced her senior from the same company, Secret's Song Ji-eun to perform 'Cool Night (쿨밤)' on her behalf with Untouchable's Sleepy due to her clashing schedules. She is the main vocalist along with High.D.
- D.ana (디애나) – Low rap[2]
- Her real name is Jo Eun-ae (조은애), born in Seoul on September 10, 1995. She is the third member to join as trainee.[11] On October 31, 2014, through their official fancafe, a video of her rapping to her self-written rap and her silhouette were released by her label.[12] On the same day, her label asked their fans to pick a stage name for her. And on November 19, 2014, it is revealed her stage name is D.ana, taking after the name of Diana, from a goddess of the moon in Roman mythology. She is in charge of low rap.
- Nahyun (나현) – Sub-vocal, Performance, Visual[2]
- Her full name is Kim Na-hyun (김나현), with date of birth of December 9, 1995. She is the last member to join as trainee together with Minjae.[11] Along with NewSun and Euijin, she was revealed first officially through their official fancafe. She is considered the visual of the group and also the sub-vocalist.
- Euijin (의진) – Performance, Sub-vocal[2]
- Her real name is Hong Eui-jin (홍의진) and she is among the four members who use a real name. Born on October 8, 1996, she was the second member after Sumin to join as trainee.[11] TS Entertainment revealed her officially along with Nahyun and NewSun, first. Prior to debut, she could be seen performing on stage as Untouchable's background dancer and appeared in a few episodes of Ta-Dah It's B.A.P. She is in charge of performance.
- High.D (하이디) – Main vocal[2]
- Her real name is Kim Do-hee (김도희) and she was the fifth member to join as trainee.[11] She was born on December 21, 1996. Her stage name is pronounced as Heidi [haɪdi]. She is the main vocal of the group along with Minjae.
- New Sun (뉴썬) – High rap[2]
- Her real name is Choi Yoon-sun (최윤선) and she was born on June 19, 1997 which makes her the youngest of the girls. She is the fourth member to join[11] and among the first members to be revealed by TS Entertainment, together with Nahyun and Euijin. In contrast to D.ana, she is in charge of high rap. She revealed she started to take interest in rap after listening to Yoon Mirae's "Black Happiness".[13] She is also a former trainee in Woollim Entertainment.
