SmartCAT is a computer-assisted translation software, originally developed by the company SmartCAT Platform Inc. It provides translation memory, terminology management and translation quality control. SmartCAT is a completely cloud-based solution, which means that it doesn't require any installation and could be used at any platform and device, including tablets, mobile phones.

History

ABBYY Language Services is a member of ABBYY Group ABBYY. The company began developing translation software in 1989, and released the first ABBYY Lingvo dictionary in 1990. The first omnifont system in Russia, ABBYY’s FineReader document conversion application, was launched in 1993. In 2004 ABBYY announces FlexiCapture Studio, a revolutionary Intelligent Document Recognition (IDR) tool and PDF transformer. In 2014 the SmartCAT, cloud-based translation automation platform, was launched. The best technologies of ABBYY, including ABBYY dictionaries, PDF and image recognition tools are already built into SmartCAT.

Configuration

SmartCAT has 2 main versions: for freelancers and for corporations. Freelancer's version is more simple, includes such tools as translation memory, terminology management, machine translation, automatic checking, concordance search, Lingvo Dictionaries, PDF and scanned documents recognition and progress bar. It's free of charge. Version for corporations has addiotional tools and options, such as vendor management, management of external suppliers, ABBYY Translation API. This version requires licence purchasing.
