Simon Carless
Simon Carless is an English video game industry publisher, journalist, editor and game designer. He was born in London, England, and presently resides in Alameda, California. Simon works in San Francisco for UBM Tech as head of its Game Network, including overseeing the worldwide Game Developers Conference shows, and as publisher of the Webby Award-winning Gamasutra.[1]
Carless is Chairman Emeritus of the Independent Games Festival, and he co-founded and led the Independent Games Summit since 2007 as part of the yearly San Francisco-based Game Developers Conference.[2]
Carless edited the games page on Slashdot, and he worked as a lead game designer at Kuju Entertainment, Eidos Interactive and Atari.[3] He wrote Gaming Hacks, a book published by O'Reilly Media.[4]
Carless was also active in the demoscene of the early 1990s, releasing modules under the moniker Hollywood.[5] He operated the netlabel Monotonik from 1996 to 2009.[6]
