Shovel Buddies is a 2016 American drama comedy film written by Jason Mark Hellerman, directed by Simon Atkinson and Adam Townley. It stars Bella Thorne, Kian Lawley, Alex Neustaedter and Anton Starkman. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 14, 2016.[1] The film is scheduled to be released through video on demand on October 11, 2016, by Awesomeness Films and 20th Century Fox.[2]

Plot

Sammy (Phillip Labes) has died of leukemia leaving behind one final wish: ensure his body is buried in his favorite football jersey. Kate (Bella Thorne), Dan (Kian Lawley), Jimmy (Alex Neustaedter) and Jimmy's little brother Lump (Anton Starkman) join the adventure of a lifetime as they spend one unforgettable night fulfilling their friend's final request.

Production

On March 24, 2015, it was announced AwesomenessTV had acquired the script of the film which was on the 2013 blacklist.[3] On June 1, 2015 it was announced Bella Thorne had join the cast alongside Kian Lawley, Alex Neustaedter, Anton Starkman, James C. Burns and Philip Labes.[4]

Filming

Principal photography began on June 1, 2015 [5] and ended on June 22, 2015.[6]

Release

The film premiered at South by Southwest on March 14, 2016.[7][8] The film is scheduled to have a digital release on October 11, 2016.[9]
