Safe Shepherd is an Internet privacy company which helps consumers identify and remove personal information from the Internet.[2][3] The company was founded in August 2011 in Chicago, but has relocated to San Francisco.[4] Safe Shepherd provides privacy-as-a-service,[5] is growing at 15% month-over-month,[6][7] and converts 15% of users to paying.[8]

History

In August 2011, Robert Leshner and Geoff Hayes designed a prototype of MelonCard, a service which "enable[d] consumers to remove their names and information from lists belonging to companies that sell personal data to marketers and background-check and people-search sites."[9] After the founders "crashed a dinner in Chicago" and met investor, Dave McClure, the team secured a venture-capital investment and relocated to California.[9]

Technology

Safe Shepherd constantly scans the Internet to remove sensitive, personal data.[10] The company focuses on removing data from people-search services, criminal background check services and marketing databases,[11] claiming to be able to remove records listed on Acxiom, Archives, BeenVerified, Epsilon, Intelius, MyLife, PeopleFinders.com, People Lookup, PeopleSmart, Pipl, Private Eye, Public Records Now, Radaris, RapLeaf, Spoke, Spokeo, US Search, USA People Search, White Pages and Zaba Search.[12] Safe Shepherd offers a free trial with the option to upgrade for premium support which gives customers a support line and continued access to monitor and remove personal information exposures.[13][14]
