DWCP-TV, channel 21 is a television station owned by Southern Broadcasting Network, a subsidiary of Solar Entertainment Corporation, and is currently the flagship station of television network ETC. Its studios are located at Upper Ground Floor Worldwide Corporate Center, Shaw Boulevard corner EDSA, Mandaluyong City, with transmitter located at Nuestra Señora de la Paz Subdivision, Bo. Sta. Cruz, Antipolo City province of Rizal.[1] SBN-21 became the first local UHF TV station in Metro Manila that broadcast in May 1992 and formerly known as World TV 21. It broadcasts daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
History
Southern Broadcasting Network of Davao launched SBN Channel 21, the first local UHF TV station in Metro Manila since 1992. It was then known as World TV 21 by Kampana Television Corporation, which provided programming content from ABC, CNN and ESPN on this channel then. The idea is to bring back programming similar to the forcibly shut-down FEN Channel 17 of the former Clark US Air Base a year earlier due to the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.
Beginning on January 1, 2008, Solar Entertainment began to lease airtime on SBN, choosing to broadcast programming from its entertainment channel ETC.[2] This partnership ended in March 2, 2011, as Solar transferred ETC to RPN. As a result, SBN renewed partnership with Solar Entertainment to create the news network Talk TV. And on October 30, 2012, it is now as the Solar News Channel, the first 24-hour English news channel on free-to-air TV.
On November 30, 2013, the Solar News Channel programming was moved to RPN, and its entertainment channel, ETC came back on SBN-21.
On February 22, 2014, SBN 21 limited its operation to ETC from 5:30 AM to 12:00 MN to 7:00 AM to 12:00 MN on free TV prior to National Telecommunications Commission's rules on affiliated free TV stations. On October 2, 2014, the station extended its operations from 6 AM to 1 AM.
In 2015, SBN ceased using its old analog transmitter tower in 22/F Strata 2000, F. Ortigas Jr. Road, Ortigas Center in Pasig City and began using its newly constructed tower located near Nuestra Señora de la Paz Subdivision, Bo. Sta. Cruz, Antipolo City province of Rizal for a clearer and better signal reception and used to broadcast SBN both in analog and digital.
