Ritter von Weber
Weber is the surname of an aristocratic German Catholic family from Bavaria. Originating in Upper Franconia, the male line originates with Friedrich Weber (died 1739), huntsman of the Prince Bishop of Bamberg, as well as mayor of Marktleugast.
George Michael Weber was awarded a (nonhereditary) knighthood upon receiving the rank of Commander of the Merit Order of the Bavarian Crown on May 19, 1808. He was appointed Deputy Royal representative for Neuburg an der Donau, afterward Vice-representative in Amberg.
The family was enrolled in the knightly class of the kingdom of Bavaria on April 28, 1813. By letters patent dated April 30, 1845 king Ludwig I raised his Secretary of State Carl Adolph Weber to the hereditary nobility with the title of ‘hereditary knight’ (Ritter).
The noted mathematician Eduard Ritter von Weber is a member of the family, branches of which can be found in America and Germany. Members have married into the aristocratic families of Chrustschoff (ancient Russian nobles) and von Hahnsberg.
