Servant of God Rhoel Gallardo, C.M.F., (29 November 1965 – 3 May 2000) was a Roman Catholic Claretian missionary martyred in Basilan, the Philippines.

Death

He became a modern-day martyr on 3 May 2000[1] when he was murdered by Islamic separatists in Mindanao. Gallardo suffered three gunshot wounds at close range to his head, shoulder and back; the nails of his index finger and toes had been pulled out two or three days before he was shot.

Beatification

The cause for his beatification is already in the preliminary stages of the diocesan investigation but has not yet received the decree "nihil obstat" from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
