Resistance Movement named after Petr Alexeev (DSPA) – is a left-wing political organization in Russia. Was created in 2004. Initiated by journalist and political activist from Saint-Petersburg Dmitriy Jvania. The movement has several divisions in other cities but the main activities take place in Saint-Petersburg. The movement named after revolutionary worker Petr Alekseev.
Ideology, goals and objectives
According to DSPA member’s views the expansion of capitalism leads to greater exploitation of poor people, growth of social inequality, suppression of freedom of man, infliction ecological disasters. As the alternative way DSPA proposes society based on socialistic planned economy and rational use of resources with mandatory cultivation of civil and working self-management.
DSPA stands up for nonviolent campaigns of direct actions and socialist agitation, providing “here and now” events using available resources. One of the main paragraph in the movement’s ideology is rejecting from rise to power as the organized group. The main objective of the DSPA’s activities is organizing a large-scale civil resistance movement from the capitalistic system.
Other objectives
- involvement in struggle for rights of ordinary citizens: workers, students, local civil groups.
- Explanation of unity of interests of working organizations and civil groups.
- Propaganda of the socialistic ideals among grassroot social movements.
DSPA is a network organization. All decisions within the Movement are taken by consensus. Anybody who agree with the DSPA’s charter and who is directly participating in movement’s actions may consider himself as the DSPA’s member.
History of DSPA
Before organizing all its “here-and-now” campaigns the Movement had a preparation period. During that period all members discussed the Movement’s theory, ideology and practice. Also have been established relations with other left-wing groups and organizations.
Campaigns
Main line of activity of DSPA are street campaigns. Average in a month the Movement provides 3-4 “here-and-now” actions. DSPA considers that such actions have to draw people’s attention to socially relevant issues and make these issues a subject of public discussion.
Cooperation with working and civil movements
Along with street campaigns DSPA takes part in labor movement and in civil initiatives basically directed against illegal building. In 2011, representatives of the DSPA attended the founding conference of the Russian Socialist Movement.[1][2][3]
