Renee S. Unterman (born January 27, 1954) is an American politician. She is a member of the Georgia State Senate from the 45th District, serving since 2003. She is a member of the Republican party.[1] She also served in the Georgia State House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002.[2]
Unterman is an executive for Amerigroup, a health insurer with a billion dollar a year state Medicaid contract. She is also chair of the Georgia State Senate Health and Human Services Committee. [3]
In March 2016, Unterman blocked House Bill 827, the Pursuing Justice for Rape Victims Act, which would have required law enforcement to account for a backlog of untested rape kits.[4][5] Her opposition to the bill was profiled in two segments on the TBS show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
