Raphaella Beatrice Spence (born 1978, London, England) is a photorealist painter based in Todi. She is represented by Bernarducci Meisel Gallery in New York City.[1] Her works consist of high resolution digital camera images combined with freehand cityscape paintings.[2]

Biography

In 1997 she completed her studies at the St. George's British International School (SGBIS) and then dedicated herself full-time to painting. Spence concentrated on developing her technical skills and influenced by views of the Umbrian countryside she turned towards a new kind of realism closely associated to photorealism. In 2003 she had her first solo exhibition in the United States at the Bernarducci.Meisel.Gallery in New York.[3] Since then her paintings have been included in numerous group survey exhibitions including the Vero Beach Museum Of Art, Vero Beach, FL (U.S.A.), MANA Art Center, Jersey City, NJ (U.S.A.), Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY (USA),[4] The Roberson Museum of Arts & Sciences, Binghamton, NY (USA),[5] Chiostro del Bramante, Rome (Italy),[6] Musei Capitolini, Rome (Italy),[7][8][9][10] Ringling College of Art and Design, Sarasota, FL (USA),[11] Manhattanville College, New York, NY (USA).

Spence has received critical recognition for her work in widely circulated newspapers and magazines including The International Herald Tribune,[12] Time Magazine,[13] The Artist"s Magazine,[14] Rh+ artmagazine,[15] Dan’s Papers,[2] Il Messaggero,[16] Corriere Della Sera,[17] ART + Design Magazine,[18] Panorama,[19] La Repubblica,[20] American Art Collector,[21] etc.

In April 2011 Dan’s Papers,[2] dedicated the front cover to Raphaella Spence.
