Ramona Pop (2013)

Ramona Pop (born 31 October 1977 in Timișoara, Romania) is a German politician and member of the Alliance '90/The Greens party. Since 2009 - since October 2012 in a dual leadership - she is chairwoman of the parliamentary faction of Alliance '90/The Greens in the Berlin state parliament (Abgeordnetenhaus). She is the leading candidate of her party for the 2016 Berlin state elections.[1]

Biography

Pop grew up in Romania until her family, which had German origins, moved to Germany in 1988. In 1997 she completed high school. Pop studied Political Sciences in Münster and Free University Berlin and graduated there at Otto-Suhr-Institut.

Pop has been a member of the Green party since 1997. In the 2001 state elections, she was elected into the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin.[2] Pop succeeded Renate Künast as leading candidate after she had made mistakes in the election campaign for 2011 Berlin state elections.[1]
