Radio Yorkshire is a radio station for Yorkshire. Radio Yorkshire is based above Subway across the road from Leeds United's Elland Road football stadium.
The station began broadcasting in March 2014. The station was set up by former Leeds chairman Ken Bates, following the closure of the similarly named Yorkshire Radio he had set up while at Leeds United.[1] The station plays music from the 1960s to the present day.
In October 2014, it was revealed by Ken Bates that after an agreement with Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino that Radio Yorkshire would broadcast Leeds United games, thus sharing broadcasting rights with BBC Radio Leeds and LUTV for live matchday commentary of all Leeds United first team games.[2]
The station also broadcasts live commentaries from Super League, usually two a weekend with coverage now extended to the Kingstone Press Championship. Rugby League Review is broadcast on Monday evenings between 6pm and 8pm during the season, with various studio guests including Rugby League journalists and former international Garry Schofield.
