Qasim Shesho

Qasim Shesho, also called the lion of Sinjar, is a member of the ethno-religious group of the Yazidis in Iraq. He gained international fame through his defensive performance in the Sinjar Mountains and the second-largest pilgrimage site of the Yazidis of their faith Sherfedîn during the summer offensive of the terrorist organization Islamic State of 2014 in Iraq.

Biography

Qasim fled 1981 with his wife and their children from Sinjar. In Syria they tried to build up their own existence, but fled to Germany in 1990. When the United States of America ended the regime of Saddam Hussein in 2003, he saw the opportunity to return. Under the impression of the summer offensive of the Islamic State terror organization, he founded the Êzîdxan Protection Force on 30 July 2014. On 20 October, he was imprisoned in the Sherfedîn pilgrimage site with fighters from the Yazidis and led them to the Battle for Sharfadin.

Qasim Şeşo is the uncle of the resistance fighter Heydar Shesho.
