Princess Elisabeth of Greece and Denmark (Greek: Πριγκίπισσα Ελισάβετ της Ελλάδας και Δανίας) (24 May 1904 – 11 January 1955) was the middle daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia.[1]
Biography
Early life
Elizabeth was born on 24 May 1904 at Tatoi, Greece.[1] Her family nicknamed her 'Woolly' because her thick, dark brown hair. Princess Elisabeth was a horsewoman and painter. Her sisters, Olga and Marina, married into reigning dynasties.
Marriage and issue
Elisabeth married Carl Theodor, Count of Toerring-Jettenbach, who was known as "Toto." Carl Theodor was the head of a German mediatized comital family also closely related to several then-ruling dynasties: his mother was a sister of Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians and of Princess Marie Gabrielle of Bavaria.[1] Count Toerring-Jettenbach was named for his grandfather, Duke Karl Theodor in Bavaria. Elisabeth and Carl Theodor had two children, six grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren:
- Hans Veit Kaspar Nikolaus, Count of Toerring-Jettenbach (11 January 1935)[1] he married Princess Henriette of Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, great granddaughter of Ferdinand IV, Grand Duke of Tuscany, on 22 March 1964. They have three children and ten grandchildren:
- Countess Clarissa of Törring-Jettenbach (31 March 1965) she married Prince Tassilo of Ratibor and Corvey in 1999. They have three children:
- Princess Charlotte of Ratibor and Corvey (20 November 2000)
- Prince Gregor of Ratibor and Corvey (25 August 2002)
- Prince Vitus of Ratibor and Corvey (29 November 2004)
- Count Ignatius Maximilian Karl Veit Törring-Jettenbach (30 March 1966) he married Robinia Viviana Giada Mentasti-Granelli on 14 May 2004. They have five daughters:
- Countess Floriana Antonia Carla of Törring-Jettenbach (5 March 2005)
- Countess Georgiana Josepha Lavinia of Törring-Jettenbach (11 July 2006)
- Countess Elisabeth Ricciarda Valeria of Törring-Jettenbach (18 June 2008)

- Countess Clarissa of Törring-Jettenbach (31 March 1965) she married Prince Tassilo of Ratibor and Corvey in 1999. They have three children:
- Countess Helene Marina Elisabeth of Toerring-Jettenbach (20 May 1937) she married Archduke Ferdinand of Austria (son of Archduke Maximilian Eugen of Austria and the nephew of Archduke Karl Franz of Austria the last Emperor of Austria) on 6 April 1956. They have three children and six grandchildren:
- Archduchess Elisabeth Caecilia Helen of Austria (15 March 1957 – 18 May 1983) she married James Litchfield on 9 October 1982.
- Archduchess Sophie of Austria (19 January 1959) she married Mariano Hugo, Prince of Windisch-Graetz on 11 February 1990. They have three children:
- Prince Maximilian Hugo of Windisch-Grätz (4 August 1990)
- Prince Alexis Ferdinando of Windisch-Grätz (10 December 1991 – 9 February 2010)
- Princess Larissa Maria Luisa of Windisch-Grätz (11 December 1997)
- Archduke Maximilian Heinrich Ferdinand of Austria (9 February 1961) he married Maya al-Askari on 2 July 2005 married Maya Askari. They have three children:
- Archduke Nikolaus Heinrich of Austria (6 December 2005)
- Archduke Constantin of Austria (4 June 2007)
- Archduchess Katharina of Austria (8 November 2010)
Elisabeth died of cancer on 11 January 1955 in Munich. She was 50 years old.
