Pirate Isles

The Pirate Isles is a location on Faerûn, a fictional continent, the primary setting of the Forgotten Realms, for Dungeons & Dragons.

Description

The Pirate Isles are a collection of rocky islands that dot the Sea of Fallen Stars and are inhabited by pirates. There are fifteen named islands but around sixty in total. The islands that comprise Prespur are not included in the Pirate Isles, despite their proximity.[1] The general makeup of the islands is mountainous terrain with high rocky cliffs. This means that there are not a lot of ports in the Pirate Isles.[1]

As of 1479 DR, due to the continued shrinking of the Sea of Fallen Stars in the century after the Spellplague, most of the Pirate Isles have become a single large island named Pirate Isle.[2],[3]

Dragonisle

Dragonisle is the largest isle. The huge Mount Earthspur is located here. The main harbor is the settlement of Immurk's Hold.

Alphar Isle

Alphar is full of pirate holds, home to around 3,000 pirates.

Bulta

All trees and animals are half their normal size on Bulta.

Fangrocks

The Fangrocks are a cluster of natural reefs exposed only during low tide that cover a circle ten miles wide.

Hawk's Isle

This isle is a pleasant, fruit filled island on which a plague has left its natives horribly deformed.

Ilthan

This is another pirate hold, though the northern end of the island is full of cyclops shepherds.

Kelthann

This isle is a common smuggler's trading point.

Lith

This isle has a dangerous reputation. Spelljamming ships land here, observed as meteors by witnesses.

Lurath

Around 20 square miles (52 km2), Lurath is enclosed by high cliffs, and sea caves that hold time portals.

Mirg Isle

A pirate hold once the stronghold of Xenz, an ally of Zhentil Keep.

Oresk

Oresk is the third strongest of the pirate holds in the isles, ruled by Azla.

Paldir

Paldir is a mountainous isle full of ex-pirates, and has 1,000-foot-tall (300 m) stone carvings of human-like heads.

Sarr

Sarr is a tiny island. It is mostly ignored and the only structure here is a lighthouse.

Sumbar

Sumbar is the location of the powerful and mysterious Sumbar Oracle. It is treacherous due to the reefs that surround it.

Tan

Tan appears as a smoking volcano and is avoided. It is home to Eshcaz the Red, a dragon.

Telfar

Telfar has the benefit of a natural harbor on its west coast, but is prone to whirlpools that are dangerous to shipping.

Ulgar's Isle

Ulgar's Isle is haunted by the vampire Ulgar the Undying.
