Orisha Pelzer (born June 21, 1988), better known by the stage name Orisha Sound, is a recording artist based in Los Angeles and Kingston, Jamaica of Slavic, Scandinavian and Brazilian ancestry.

Early life

Orisha Sound was born June 21, 1988 in Oslo, Norway and moved to Saint Petersburg, Russia as a little girl. Orisha grew up in a post Soviet country in a very educated, yet poor family. She was raised living in a studio apartment sharing the room with her parents while her older sister slept in the kitchen. At age four, Orisha Sound started practicing the violin, piano and singing. Singer and multi-instrumentalist (she plays over 15 instruments) at nine years old, she was a child-prodigy virtuoso, touring in Europe and the United States.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] Since then she has appeared on stage and in studio with Stevie Wonder, Stanley Clarke, Anthony Hamilton, Devante Swing, Flo Rida, Snoop Dogg, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Sizzla, Sly & Robbie, Beenie Man, Jae Deal and many others.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]

Musical career

Orisha Sound first gained fame in 2013 with her debut single “Beautiful Sin”.[21] After this international single was released, several major labels were trying to get Orisha Sound on their roster. Later that year she had signed a deal with RBC records (Snoop Lion, DJ Quick, Ice Cube, Game)[22] and released 15-track album Cupid on July 9 of that year.[23] Orisha has appeared on stage and in studio with Stevie Wonder, Stanley Clarke, Anthony Hamilton, Devante Swing, Flo Rida, Snoop Lion, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Sizzla, Sly & Robbie, Beenie Man, Jae Deal and many others.[24] Orisha’s album, Cupid, was produced by Billboard Platinum producer, Andrew Lane and Jamaican producer, Shel-K. Songs were written and co-written by Orisha Sound and recorded in Boom Boom Box and Brandon’s Way (Los Angeles), Mixing Lab and Tuff Gong (Kingston) and Melodia (Moscow). Two songs from the album – dancehall track “Embrace It” ft Sizzla Kalonji and one-drop “Sunshine Lady” ft Wayne Daniel went on the charts in several countries and reached number one in Jamaica.[25] The videos for two singles – reggae version of the “Beautiful Sin” and sultry “Make Me Moan” were premiered on MTV network and getting rotation on different stations all over the world.[26] Orisha’s latest album, 1 Reggae, was released on October 28, 2014. 1 Reggae includes several tracks from Cupid that were reworked with a more distinct reggae style. Tracks include “Rollercoaster,” “Rewind,” “Beautiful Sin” and “Sunshine Lady.” 1 Reggae includes appearances from acts such as Grammy award-winning Jamaican reggae artist Beenie Man, Sizzla kalonji and Anthony Que.[27][28] [29]

Acting career

As an actress, Orisha has appeared in American and International films such as “Friends Request”, “Holding Back”, “Relentless”, “Charlie’s Messengers” and “Titanium Man”.[30] Since September 2013, she is starring in “Project O” – a reality TV show, produced by Black and Yellow Entertainment for Punch TV Network, and based on her life.[31] In 2014, Orisha was featured in the documentary, Addicted: The Universal Language of Music.[32] The film won an IFS (Independent Filmmakers Showcase) Best Documentary Award.[33]

“World War Three” featuring Grammy winning King of the dancehall Beenie Man was just released at the end of 2013 by Black and Yellow Entertainment and Zojak Worldwide and is hitting iTunes charts and getting major radio rotation worldwide.[45][46][47][48][49][50][51] Music video for the song was shot in Kingston, Jamaica and Los Angeles, California and was released January 2014.[52][53][54][55]
