On the Ball (Trojan Vision show)
On the Ball is a television show for the University of Southern California's Trojan Vision network. The show focuses on the new Women's Professional Soccer league in the United States, which finished its inaugural season in late August 2009.[1][2] The show mixes game highlight footage with player interviews to provide a comprehensive on the field and off the field look at the new league. The show is broadcast on Television on LA 36 and LA local channel 8, but is also available for download on iTunes as a free video podcast under the title On the Ball
History
After watching the Inaugural WPS Game on May 29, 2009 between the Los Angeles Sol and the Washington Freedom, Julie Logan decided she wanted to know more about this league and these players. Coming up with the idea a TV show for USC's Trojan Vision network, Julie took the jumble of thoughts in her head and the title "On the Ball" to her good friend and producing partner, Alisa Naso. Immediately on board, they quickly set about making the show.
After the show was greenlit by Trojan Vision, Alisa and Julie reached out to the Los Angeles based team, the LA Sol. They attended 7 of the Los Angeles Sol home games and 2 away games to the Northern California team, FC Gold Pride, and interviewed over 18 players, coaches, and WPS staff.
Recently the On the Ball crew did a remote shoot for interviews with several U.S. Women's National Soccer Team players when they were in Los Angeles for training in September, 2009.[3] The players were Abby Wambach, Hope Solo, and Heather O'Reilly.
The season premiered on Friday September 25, 2009 and is now available for download on iTunes as a free video podcast.
